$240,000 at stake during November 2023 Match Month Campaign

The Sheridan County Community Foundation (SCCF) is pleased to announce details regarding the annual Match Month fundraising campaign for November 2023.

For the 8th year, the Foundation will be participating in the ‘Match Month’ campaign generously sponsored by the Dane G. Hansen Foundation, in which funds raised locally are matched 1:1 by the Hansen Foundation, up to $50,000.00. These funds are then added to SCCF’s large "Cultivate Sheridan County" endowment fund which has been growing over the past several years and currently sits at over $800,000.00.

Once the fund has reached $1 million in principal, the Foundation board of directors will open it up for grant applications, with an estimated yearly payout of approximately $50,000.00 in grant proceeds. These funds will be available along with the existing Dane G. Hansen Foundation Community Fund for which SCCF receives $50,000.00 annually from the Hansen Foundation to distribute via grant applications accepted monthly by the last day of each month (visit www.growsheridancounty.org/grants for more information.

This year, the Foundation is setting a minimum local fundraising goal of $70,000.00 because, if reached, not only will these funds be matched by the Hansen Foundation’s $50k match but also by an additional $70,000.00 in matching funds provided by the Patterson Family Foundation, Kansas City, through a new grant program administered by the Kansas Association of Community Foundations (KACF).

But wait, it gets even better! As an incentive for reaching the $50k matching goal set by the Hansen Foundation, SCCF will be eligible for an additional bonus grant of $50k, with $5k dedicated to SCCF’s immediate operating needs and $45k added to SCCF’s operating endowment fund to support yearly budgeting needs.

All campaign funds combined equal a grand total of $240,000.00 available to benefit Sheridan County for years to come!

“As a current board member of the KACF, I was beyond ecstatic to work with the fellow KACF board members and staff to help connect that organization to the Patterson Family Foundation who has made $7 million available across the state for community foundations to use with their matching initiatives,” said SCCF Executive Director Karl Pratt.

“I first learned about the Patterson Family Foundation during the pandemic when they reached out offering business and organizational relief funding support. Through that program, we were able to provide 19 Sheridan County area businesses and organizations with a combined total of $76,000.00 in support funds. I then assisted the Hoxie Schools USD 412 and SCCF in applying to the Patterson Family Foundation for $35k and $85k, respectively, for the two community childcare projects. We received full funding from those requests. With the current $70k Match Month opportunity, I’m continued to be blown away and at a loss for words for the incredible generosity being bestowed upon rural Kansas communities by both the Patterson Family Foundation and those of us lucky enough to live in the ‘Magic Corner’ of northwest/north central Kansas, known also as the service area of the Dane G. Hansen Foundation,” continued Pratt.

Donations for the annual Match Month campaign will be accepted beginning November 1 and throughout the remainder of the month. The SCCF staff and board of directors hope you will help us reach these important fundraising goals as we continue to improve the lives of Sheridan County residents, businesses, and visitors for generations to come!

About the Dane G. Hansen Foundation

The Dane G. Hansen Foundation was established in 1965 with a generous estate gift from Dane G. Hansen. Mr. Hansen was an entrepreneur whose business interests over the course of his life included, among others, retail, lumber, road and bridge construction and oil.

Reflecting Mr. Hansen’s lifelong love of Northwest Kansas, the charitable foundation that bears his name has a mission to improve the quality of life for the residents and the communities in the 26 counties that make up the northwest quarter of Kansas.

Based in Mr. Hansen’s hometown of Logan, Kansas, the Foundation is governed by a board of seven Trustees.

Applications are received year-round and grants are awarded monthly to benefit Northwest Kansas and its residents. In addition, the Foundation has launched a number of strategic initiatives to serve the region today and into the future.

The Foundation also has a robust scholarship program, awarding hundreds of scholarships each year, both new and renewing, totaling more than $2.5 million. Annual grants and scholarships total in the range of $18 to $20 million.

SCCF is an affiliate of the Greater Northwest Kansas Community Foundation based in Bird City. The foundation seeks to encourage, prudently manage, and distribute charitable contributions to improve the quality of life of Sheridan County residents, now and in the future.
