The Sheridan County Community Foundation is pleased to award four ‘Golden Star Surprise Grants’ to four area non-profits.
In celebration of the 2024 Sheridan County Fair and Carnival, the Foundation conducted a Golden Stars ‘Surprise’ Grant Scavenger Hunt in which a gold star was hidden in a different location on the fair and carnival grounds each day from Wednesday, July 17 through Saturday, July 20, 2024.
Clues to the locations of each star were posted on the Foundation’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/sheridanccf). The public was invited to then search for the stars with the lucky recipients receiving a handful of carnival tickets for themselves as well as the opportunity to award a $500.00 “surprise” grant to a local Sheridan County non-profit of their choice from a list of eligible organizations.
The scavenger hunts details were as follows:
Star #1 – Clue: New creations all around me, blue, purple, red, or white, what will it be? Location: Inside the 4H Exhibits Building. Winners: Toby & Eli Cressler. Grant Recipient: Sheridan County Benefit Walk.
Star #2 – Clue: The Hoxie Carnival is a legacy in and of itself, but countless local family legacies will live on if you need a rest in between rides! Location: Under a bench on the Carnival grounds. Winner: Boaz Etherton. Grant Recipient: All Stars for Jesus.
Star #3 – Clue: Inspired by the children’s classic, Charlotte’s Web, we invite you take a page out of Templeton’s book! Location: Under the counter of the Carnival’s west concession stand. Winner: Joleen Etherton. Grant Recipient: Christy Community Church.
Star #4 – Clue: Today marks the last of several things…last day of the fair, last night of the carnival and rodeo, and your last chance to find a Golden Star! So, take a number, find a seat, and enjoy today to the fullest! Location: Under a chair at the 4H Food Stand. Winners: Khloe Hammond. Grant Recipient: Main Street Arts Council.
“We would like to thank the Fair and Carnival groups for allowing us to conduct our scavenger hunt on their grounds,” said Karl Pratt, SCCF Executive Director. “We hope the public had fun searching for the stars. We enjoyed getting to introduce the idea of grant making and philanthropy to our area youth, especially the lucky recipients who found the Golden Stars!”
