Sheridan County Community Foundation announces Upcoming Events and Match Month campaign

The Sheridan County Community Foundation (SCCF) is pleased to announce a series of events this fall and winter aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Sheridan County residents. These events are part of SCCF's ongoing mission to support the community now and for future generations.

A highlight of the season is the Sheridan County Daycare Duplex Facility Open House and Ribbon Cutting. The event will take place on Sunday, October 20, from 2 to 5 p.m., marking the near completion of a multi-year project designed to address the growing childcare needs in Sheridan County.

SCCF is proud to welcome two new childcare providers, Jordan Ewers of The Jungle Gym and Caitlin Schwagerl of Kingdom Kiddos, who will soon open their businesses within the new facility. Both daycare businesses are expected to be operational before the end of the year.

SCCF invites the public to celebrate this achievement alongside contributors, funders, coalition members, and partners.

In addition to this milestone event, SCCF is gearing up for 2024 November Match Month, an annual fundraising campaign with the potential to significantly amplify local donations. Thanks to the generosity of the Dane G. Hansen Foundation and the Patterson Family Foundation, donations made during November will be matched more than two-fold. SCCF aims to raise $70,000 locally, which will be matched by $170,000 ($100,000 from the Hansen Foundation and $70,000 from the Patterson Family Foundation), bringing the total potential campaign amount to $240,000.

Funds raised will be added to the Foundation’s “Cultivate Sheridan County” endowment fund which now has more than $1.1 million in principal funding from which grants can be awarded via the monthly grant application process.

Area organizations are encouraged to apply by visiting www.growsheridancounty.org/grants.

While the 2024 November Match Month campaign officially kicks off on November 1, the Foundation will be conducting a “Kick-Off” Reception on Monday, Nov. 4 at Oscar’s, 845 Main, Hoxie, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The public is invited to join members of the SCCF staff and the Board of Directors for complimentary refreshments and conversation, and to drop off donations. The event is come-and-go. SCCF is paying for the first $500 in coffee sales during the event. (Limit one FREE specialty drink per person).

In coordination with Hoxie Junior High Social Studies Teacher Mrs. Leah Heskett’s Civics Class students, the Foundation will be conducting a Sheridan County Community Organizations Fair on Monday, Nov. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hoxie High School, 1625 Queen Ave.

The evening will begin in the auditorium with a welcome and announcements from the Foundation followed by introductions from representatives of each attending organization. Attendees will then move into the gymnasium for the remainder of the fair in which the public can interact with various organizations for which they might be interested in helping serve as volunteers, future board members, etc. All are invited to attend. Dinner refreshments will be provided during the event. Registrations are required online at www.growsheridancounty.org/events to assist with event preparations.

Finally, on Saturday, Nov. 23, beginning at 5 p.m., the Foundation will be holding the November Match Month Dueling Pianos Fundraising Event at the Sheridan County 4H Building, Hoxie.

The event will be similar to the Community Appreciation Event held in January of this year; however, it will be ticketed with fees including a delicious meal catered by The Elephant Bistro & Bar, drinks, dessert, and the dueling pianos entertainment provided by Colorado Keys of Denver.

Ticket details and sales will be announced and opened up soon. Check the Foundation’s events webpage mentioned above for more information.

SCCF encourages community members to participate in these exciting events and help support their mission of enhancing Sheridan County's future.

SCCF is an affiliate of the Greater Northwest Kansas Community Foundation based in Bird City.
