Hoxie, Kansas — September 18, 2025 — Sheridan County Economic Development is making strides to address local housing needs, thanks to a grant that will support attendance at the Kansas Housing Conference, October 27–29 in Overland Park.
The Kansas Housing Conference brings together experts, developers, lenders, and community leaders from across the state to collaborate on solutions for one of the most pressing challenges facing rural Kansas: housing. Sessions cover topics such as affordable housing development, financing tools, rehabilitation programs, and strategies for strengthening rural communities.
Economic Development Program Officer Kerissa Payne will represent Sheridan County at the event.
“Affordable housing continues to be one of the biggest barriers to growth in Sheridan County,” said Kerissa Payne. “This grant makes it possible for us to learn from state leaders and industry experts, bring back new ideas, and identify resources that can be applied right here at home. It’s another step forward in building a long-term strategy for housing in our county,” said Payne.
This opportunity builds on Sheridan County’s recent efforts to assist households with demolition and rehabilitation grants, attract new investment, and prepare for a countywide strategic planning process in 2026.
The grant was awarded through donors of the Kansas Housing Conference.
Payne’s attendance will help ensure Sheridan County remains connected to statewide housing conversations and better equipped to apply innovative practices locally.
Sheridan County Economic Development efforts are carried out under the umbrella of the Sheridan County Community Foundation (SCCF). Kerissa Payne serves as the Economic Development Program Officer, working to strengthen local businesses, enhance the economy, improve quality of life, and support community progress for all who live and work in Sheridan County, Kansas.
