Sheridan County Pop-Up Event invites visitors and locals to Explore, Shop, and Sing

The Kansas Sampler Foundation’s “Big Kansas Road Trip Pop-Up” event is coming to Sheridan County on Saturday, Oct. 4, bringing a full day of activities, tours, and sing-alongs designed to showcase the best of rural Kansas life. Visitors and locals alike will have the opportunity to experience Sheridan County’s history, hospitality, and community spirit in action.

The Sheridan County Community Foundation (SCCF)/Economic Development is serving as the local organizer and event facilitator.

Along with tours of the historic jail and museum in Hoxie, behind-the-scenes access at Foote Cattle Company, a Cookie Social in Selden, and more, attendees are invited to support local businesses and organizations and stop by the Community Impact Center in Hoxie from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to check out and purchase goods from area homegrown businesses at the Home-based Business Market. Highlights of the market include baked goods from cookies to bread, grabbing a cold drink from Drink the Vibe, and picking up a premade meal to support the Hoxie High School Track Renovation Project.

The day’s event, which kicks off “at the stump” at 10 a.m. on the lawn of the Sheridan County Courthouse spans from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The day will conclude in Studley at the historic Cottonwood Ranch for a chuckwagon-style supper hosted by the Hoxie Boy Scouts, who will be serving chili, cornbread, and homemade desserts. The final sing-along—featuring Kansas songs, pop, and country favorites—will round out the evening under the prairie sky.

“This Pop-Up event is about showcasing who we are, and that means highlighting the people and industries that keep Sheridan County thriving,” said Sofia White, SCCF Special Projects Coordinator. “From shopping local to touring our historic jail and Foote Cattle Company, this event is an invitation to experience Sheridan County with fresh eyes.”

All events are open to the public, with activities scheduled throughout the day. Locals are especially encouraged to come out, shop, and support the organizations that make Sheridan County strong.
